Penn State DuBois is a commonwealth campus of the Pennsylvania State University. It is located in DuBois, Pennsylvania. The school was originally founded as a satellite learning center in 1935 and featured four faculty and was housed in a renovated church. During the 1940s, standard ungraduate courses were generally replaced by those aimed at training defense specialists for World War II. After the conclusion of the war, Penn State officials considered closing the center, but fundrasing through local nonprofits kept the facility open. In 1959, the school was formally integrated as a branch campus of Penn State. Afterward, the college, one of few in the relatively rural surrounding error, was marketed as a major community institution for not just Dubois' Clearfield County, but also nearby Jefferson and Elk Counties.
