Irwin Richman completed his doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania and became an Historian for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in Harrisburg before marrying into the Pennsylvania German culture. His immediate family has provided a link into the world of the Pennsylvania Germans that goes beyond book learning.
