Inspired by the extraordinary true stories of Palestinian and Israeli peace activists, People Like Us takes readers on an insightful and poignant journey spanning the five decades of the Israeli Occupation of the West Bank, Palestine, told through the narratives of a diverse cast of remarkable characters. Hassan spent his youth clashing with the Israeli army on the streets of Aida refugee camp until one tragic day when he lost his brother to the violence. Caleb was once Israel's poster child, raised on a kibbutz and conscripted into the army's most elite combat unit. But he becomes a refusenik, and he's out of the army and out of favour. Omar survived a soldier's bullet, but the episode sent him spinning toward a life of terrorism. Released from prison, he's still not ready to let matters rest. Eva was at the Kings of Israel Square when Yitzak Rabin was assassinated; it was also the night she met Heba, a young Palestinian woman - a confluence of events that continues to define Eva's life nearly thirty years on. In the footsteps of Gandhi, Mandela and MLK, we meet soldiers of peace like these, who all keep marching forward despite the seeming impossibility of their cause.
