A raft of federal and state level rules and regulations govern the hotel industry. Given the nature of activity the industry is into, it could not be otherwise. However, it is possible to consolidate the raft of rules and regulations into a manageable set of regulations for the hotel industry to follow without at the same time overlooking the essence of the regulations. To begin with, the major players of the industry should be placed under the oversight of a statutory regulator for the industry's overall growth and development. The industry is important from the point of view of the country's GDP growth and the country's ability to turn the current account deficit on its balance of payments into current account surplus.
