This book intends to analyze the performance of State Industrial Development Corporations in Northern India during the transitional phase of Indian economy when it was changing its outlook under economic liberalization in 1980s and 1990s. This is an analysis based on empirical research conducted to evaluate the performance of five such corporations in the region during the period starting from 1980 until 1998. The purpose of writing this book is to create a base for further research to answer how this could have been better achieved and also to compare the same with the next 20 years. Secondly, this will be a ground for my own follow up work, which I am planning to study with a bigger perspective on industrial development in India.
