This work discusses about surface integrity characteristics and tool life enhancement techniques while turning the AISI 52100 steel and Inconel 718 alloy. The overall experimentation pertains to five modules, where the comprehensive work relates to the identification of influence of various machining parameters, wear coating treatment on cutting tools and cutting environment on different surface integrity traits. The experimental plan was executed through Taguchi design and the experimentation followed. The obtained data was verified using ANOVA, backed by RSM optimization. The preliminary study analyzed the performance of conventional, wiper, DCT and coated carbide inserts while finish turning of high-carbon steel (AISI 52100) under dry conditions. The optimal parameters are turning henceforth used to examine the performance under MQL machining condition. Later, the experiment was carried to identify the machining performance of DCT and tempered inserts, as work with Inconel 718material. Similar experiment was performed under various cooling conditions.
