The first study deals with the behavior of ETUS routing protocol in the presence of various types of generic attacks. The proposed system has conducted simulation studies to assess the improvement in the performance of Generic ETUS over ETUS routing protocol. The second study presents a new model for the extension of the protecting the network layer from the malicious attacks, by defining a token-based umpiring technique (TBUT) in which, whole nodes need a token to participate in the network and the adjacent nodes act as umpires. The third study is the extension of the TBUT and Generic ETUS incorporating a new mechanism called CLUS. The research study proposes a framework Cross Layer Umpiring System (CLUS) that provides security for routing and data forwarding operations. The results show a significant improvement in the CLUS and also in the performance of ETUS and Generic ETUS in all metrics, packet delivery ratio, control overhead and end-to-end delay. Extensive simulation studies have been performed using QualNet, a scalable simulation environment for the wireless network system.
