Buildings constitute a substantial percentage of most educational institutions' assets, user needs and operating costs. However, despite the crucial role of this resource, performance evaluation of buildings is not a mainstream activity in Africa, particularly Nigeria. There is limited or no research/data to assess how extensively the use of or lack of building performance evaluation affect teaching, learning spaces and organizational performance.This research aimed at developing an appropriate model for building performance evaluation based on performance indicators, for improved awareness, understanding and practice. The research primarily focused on ¿user needs within the organizational context and so took a holistic assessment of the higher education built asset environment including support staff facilities. The bespoke methodology developed in the research constitutes an innovative and pioneering contribution to building performance evaluation as a developing field of research knowledge.The study has major implications for policy makers, governments, facilities managers as well as a useful tool for higher education built asset management.
