This book presents the comparison of performance between matrix converter and DBR-VSC fed induction motor drive. Traditionally, pulse width modulation based DBR- VSC fed induction motor drive used as variable frequency drive. Conventional converter required two stage for power conversion with bulky energy storage capacitor. The energy storage capacitor limits the converter to be used in high temperature surrounding. The presence of capacitor increases cost volume ratio of converter. The serious drawback of this converter topology is output voltage and current is in non-sinusoidal in nature. The output voltage and current contained odd harmonic component which is responsible for additional losses and torque pulsation of motor. Matrix converter converts power in single stage without using any intermediate energy storage element. The matrix converter has several attractive features such bi-directional power flow capability, adjustable power factor, pure sinusoidal output current waveform with reduces harmonic distortion which is helps to reduce torque pulsation of motor. This dissertation report present modeling and simulation of matrix converter and DBR-VSC fed induction.
