In order to keep up with the pace of change in maritime transport, Algeria needs to establish a port policy based on the implementation of handling techniques and an evolving port organisation capable of constantly improving port performance.Among the many reasons for collecting port data, there are two that are of major interest to port authorities. Firstly, the data can be used to improve port operations and, secondly, it can provide an appropriate basis for planning port expansion. In fact, to analyse the performance of a port, it is necessary to have statistical data on its facilities and operations, and accounting data on its costs and revenues. One form of analysis is the definition of a series of performance indicators.
