The consensus report from the 6th European Workshop on Periodontology categorized peri- implant disease into two types: Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Peri-implant mucositis is described as a bacteria-induced, reversible inflammatory condition of peri- implant soft tissue that is characterized by inflammation of soft tissues surrounding the implant without any sign of bone loss. The clinical signs of peri-implant mucositis includes bleeding on gentle probing, and suppuration, which are usually associated with probing depth of at least 4mm with no evidence of radiographic loss of bone.
