The content of this book originally derives from a research project funded by Macquarie University and undertaken in Australia during my postgraduate study in International Communication. Since I have extensive experience in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in Thailand for over ten years at South-East Asia University, I was interested in investigatingsomething that primarily dealt with language and cultural barriers in a context of English as an international language (EIL). I hope that readers will understand more of the social phenomena of use of English in two different contexts.
