Born in 1950, Wg Cdr DP Sabharwal is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. He is a post-graduate in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and MSc (Defence Studies) from Madras University. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) as well as the Aeronautical Society of India, life member of the Rotary Wing Society of India and the Indian Society for Technical Education. He joined the Indian Air Force in January 1972, worked on various fighter aircrafts (Hunter, Mig-21, Mig-29) and helicopters (Chetak, Mi-8) and was Chief Engineer of an operational base. He also served as faculty at the Air Force Technical College, Bangalore and Post-graduate Institute of Armament Technology, Pune. After taking voluntary retirement in 1996, he decided to pursue a career in teaching and writing. He is presently a visiting professor at two engineering colleges and at an MBA coaching institute in Chandigarh. He is also a counselor and resource person on ' career, management and quality' aspects. Wg Cdr DP Sabharwal has published more than 20 technical papers and 100 articles in various national newspapers and magazines. He has authored 13 books, seven professional and six on aviation related subjects. His book ' 100 years of Aviation' was released during the centenary celebrations of aviation in 2003. To his friends, he is an engineer by training, an aircraftsman by profession, a teacher at heart and a writer by aptitude.
