The effects of personality predisposition and job stress effects on sick leave usage shows that Type A persons tend to seek out highly stressful positions and often work without vacations or take sick leave. Type A individuals believe they cannot leave their work and, when they do, can't relax or recuperate as they try to stay in touch with their office. Consequently, when these persons do get ill they are often more sick due to ignoring the early symptoms and neglecting to take corrective action. As a result, they take longer to recover.
