In scholarly but accessible terms, with many startling and controversial insights, this book examines the many models the humanity of God has taken throughout history and how each view has shaped our faith and world view. Renowned Bible scholar Dr. Yochanan Muffs explores the anthropomorphic evolution of the Divine Image, from creator of the cosmos to God the father, God the husband, God the king, God the ?chess-player, ? God the ultimate master. Muffs also examines how expressions of divine power, divine will, and divine love throughout the Bible have helped develop the contemporary human condition and our enriching dialectic between faith and doubt. By illuminating the ever-changing face of God, Muffs reveals our own mechanisms for preserving our faith, nourishing our souls, and ensuring that we flourish?and thus showing us the true image of God.
