Today hospitals are confronted with increasing operating costs, while they have decreasingly money on hand. In order to maintain economic stability, hospitals have to face and minimize these operating costs. This goal can be achieved by using intelligent quantitative methods and models of the Operations Research (OR) field. In this book a Mixed-Integer Linear programming model (MIP-model) is presented to reduce personnel costs by scheduling cleaning workforces in hospitals. The model includes the creation of a shift plan, the consideration of certain quality conditions (e.g. high motivation at work, overall demand coverage, location changes) and an application of the model within a short case study.
