Anne Elliot was nobody with her father or her sisters. She was only Anne. Seven or more years ago she was persuaded to give up her understanding with a young naval of¿cer; for Captain Frederick Wentworth, RN, had risen without trace and therefore could not be approved of by Lady Russell, a quietly manipulative friend of the family. Now aged twenty-seven, Anne experiences only anguish when Wentworth reappears, in company with other of¿cers whom peacetime has washed ashore. After a shocking accident on the Cobb at Lyme Regis, effectively closed for the winter, and an enforced visit to Bath, with its stultifying card-parties and polite nothings, Anne faces a future that will if anything be less certain than the one to which she has resigned herself. All she can be sure of is that it will be very different. If you have ever expected Jane Austen's novels to be dif¿cult to read, the LINE CLEAR edition is the one for you. Autorenporträt
Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English author born in Hampshire, England. She's best-known for her novels in which she critiques 18th century society and displays her characteristically sharp wit. Austen's most famous works include Sense and Sensibility, 1811, Pride and Prejudice, 1813, and Emma, 1816. Although her works have now been translated and printed in editions across the globe, Austen was relatively unknown during her lifetime, publishing her novels anonymously.
