Autorenporträt
Dr. P. Kumar is an eminent mathematician and meteorologist with over 5 decades of rich and varied experience across multiple disciplines. He completed his PhD in Fluid Dynamics and Magneto-Hydrodynamics from Banaras Hindu University in 1973. He then joined the Indian Air Force (IAF) and was commissioned as an officer in the Meteorological Branch where he served for 22 years and retired as Wing Commander. After retirement, he entered academics and had various successful stints across India and retired as Head of Department (Core Engineering and Engineering Sciences), MIT College of Engineering, Pune. He has authored 8 books on Mathematics, Meteorology, Hydraulics, and Physics and published more than 60 papers in various international and national journal. His theory of tornado genesis is the first and only theory of its kind in the world. He is a Life Member of Indian Meteorological Society and Indian Mathematical Society. He is the recipient of American Meteorological Society's "Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Advance of Applied Meteorology" in 2022 and is the first scientist outside of USA to be recognized with this award. He lives in Pune, India with his wife Kiran.
