The livestock sector is one of the pillars of the economy of West African countries. As a Sahelian country with an essentially agropastoral vocation, livestock plays a very important role in the economy of Niger. However, the emergence and re-emergence of numerous diseases are a hindrance to the development of livestock. Among these diseases, PPR is one of the most devastating diseases of goats and sheep. Long neglected, it is now endemic in most countries of Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the FAO have adopted a global strategy for the control and eradication of PPR. Thus, vaccination campaigns are regularly undertaken each year at the local and national levels, but the vaccination coverage rate remains below 80% (threshold of vaccination coverage necessary to stop the transmission of the virus according to the OIE). It is therefore necessary to review the limits, to continue the vaccination efforts and to coordinate them well. Fighting animal diseases is a way to contribute to the fight against poverty and ensure food security for the poorest populations.
