And when the birthday includes a surprise party, what could be better! Peter Rabbit is celebrating his birthday. His Mom's busy making a special cake and lots of goodies for a surprise birthday party. She's also busy baking apple pies to send to the new neighbor and welcome them into the neighborhood. Fortunately, two of her friends drop by and pitch in to help. Peter decides to go out to play. When he returns, covered in mud from playing in the pond, his mother tells him to hurry and clean up for his birthday celebrations. Peter doesn't know he's in for a surprise party, but he does know there will be some sort of a celebration complete with gifts and cake. Mary Elizabeth Kovar's picture book story, Peter Rabbit's Surprise Birthday Party, is a simple story that will appeal to young readers. It is full of colorful illustrations with an easy to follow plot leading up to the very special event, the surprise party, and the even bigger surprise at the end, the gift that Peter really wanted for his birthday. And, it's something that he's more than willing to share with all of his friends at the party - a good little note about sharing that always needs reinforcing with young people. Life can't get much better: good family, good friends, good food, and good fun. A sweet story to charm little readers.
