There is enormous biodiversity in animal kingdom. This biodiversity of animal breeds and species should be maintained to make balance of ecosystem. Therefore,it is an urgent need to properly document the description of these non-descript breeds available in different agro-climatic zones in different countries. It is also felt that among the non-descript breeds, there may be some unidentified strains/breeds that have been evolved over ages through geographical isolation and natural selection to suit the specific agro-ecological conditions. Further, in the absence of clear cut breeding policies, even the pure recognized breed is also facing dilution of its genetic uniqueness due to indiscriminate mating with other breed. Therefore, a systemic survey or research has to be undertaken to identify such strain or breed. Such new strain/breed could be subsequently purified and fixed by judicial mating programme.
