Philosophical Writings is an international postgraduate philosophy journal published in the philosophy department at Durham University, UK. The remit of the journal is to publish articles by advanced postgraduates and new academics. When the journal started it published philosophy in alternative formats, such as cartoons, poetry, dialogue, types of fiction, aphorisms and diagrams, aiming to "encourage innovative or unusual ways of presenting philosophical ideas". The journal quickly became more mainstream, and now tends only to publish articles written in an analytic style. However, Philosophical Writings publishes articles on both analytical philosophy and continental philosophy.
