John Ryder is provost and professor of philosophy emeritus at American University. While teaching at the State University of New York at Cortland, he developed the master's level course in the philosophy of education, primarily for working teachers. He served as a dean of arts and sciences at Cortland, the director of international programs and the Center on Russia and the US at SUNY, and rector or provost at universities in Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Malta. He is currently visiting professor at Széchenyi Istvan University in Hungary.
