Produktbeschreibung
This encyclopedia is a comprehensive survey and analysis of the main philosophical, scientific (or empirical), and theological studies of mission in the 19th and 20th centuries. It deals with (1) the names, (2) the concepts, (3) the methods, and (4) the branches of missiology. Therefore, it concludes with four chapters after an introductory chapter. Since most branches of missiology only came into existence in the 19th century, most analyses, descriptions, and bibliographies do not go back beyond 1800. Both the philosophy of mission and the science of mission are dealt with in this first volume. The theology of mission, especially the missionary theology, is thoroughly discussed in the second volume.

Rezensionen
(Franz Gmainer-Pranzl, Theologisch-Praktische Quartalsschrift)
«Professors and Students of this subject should avail of this excellent pedagogical aid and can be assured of the optimistic future that this discipline will have, especially with the advances of science and technology.» (Macario M. Ofilada, Phillipiniana Sacra)
(Hans Werner Gensichen, Jahrbuch Mission)
«Wherever missiology is heading for the 21st century, Jongeneel has greatly contributed to the discipline with the creation of a primary tool for missiological research». (Werner Ustorf, Exchange)
«This volume ... will be an essential acquisition for every theological library.» (Gerald H. Anderson, JBMR)
«From a personal point of interest as a missiologist and teacher of missiology, this is the type of work that I had been looking forward to». (J. Patmury, 'The Asia Journal of Theology)
