Secretory phospholipase A2 is a crucial regulatory enzyme in the initiation of any inflammatory reactions there by producing various pro-inflammatory lipid mediators and reactive oxygen species. Elevateted level of sPLA2 is reported in all pathophysiological conditions. During the healing process this enzyme should be down regulated, other wise the defensive inflammatory reactions become potentially harmful and ends up in various chronic inflammatory disorders which are life threatening. The reactive oxygen species produced during injury and infection that inturn activates PLA2 enzyme by that they worsen the situation to greater extent. Uncontrolled strong stimuli of on going inflammatory reactions are controlled by anti-inflammatory drugs. There are many ways of bringing down inflammation and its damage to the human system. Glucocorticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents have been used for decades as anti-inflammatory drugs even though they have considerable sideeffects on the human body. From the clinical studies it has been suggested that inhibitors of inflammatory PLA2 enzymes are therapeutically powerful as anti-inflammatory drugs.
