Toponym is a geographical name that reflects the national identity of the people, historical, natural and geographical features, the conditions of its life, as well as mental structure, imprinted in the traditions, customs, folklore. This circumstance is especially important when studying a foreign language culture, in particular when studying a foreign language. Toponyms are an integral part of the background knowledge of speakers of a given language and culture. Toponyms condense the entire complex of culture and psychology of a given people, the unique way of its figurative thinking. The study of the bright and unforgettable world of geographical names allows us to immerse ourselves in the cultural environment of a foreign-speaking society. In the monograph "Phraseological toponyms" the problem of national-cultural component of toponym meaning is investigated, which helps to reveal the features of phraseological world pictures in English and French. The work provides a comprehensive linguocultural analysis of the units under study: in terms of historical and etymological origin, localization and nature of the denoted objects, motivation and connotation, types of culture components.
