Ulrich Lüttge lehrte bis zum Jahr 2004 als Ordinarius am Institut für Botanik der Technischen Universität Darmstadt. Ulrich Lüttges Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigt sich u.a mit Membranphysiologie und -biochemie, circadianer Rhythmik von Photosyntheseprozessen sowie dem antioxidativen Verteidigungssystem der Pflanze.

Die Spannweite dieses Buches reicht vom Ökosystem bis in die Biophysik und Molekularbiologie... Das Buch ist übersichtlich gegliedert, die Präsentation der Datenfülle (viele Originaldaten und Fotos!) verrät großes didaktisches Geschik und das jedem Kapitel angefügte Literaturverzeichnis ermöglicht eine rasche Vertiefung.
