The ethanolic extract of Lathyrus sativus Linn. (Family-Fabaceae) indicated the presence of Alkaloids, Tannins, Steroids, Gums, Glycosides. The ethanolic extract of Lathyrus sativus Linn. is showed anti-oxidant activity (35.23% inhibition at 400ug/ml dose) while the standard ascorbic acid found to be 97.035% inhibition at 400ug/ml dose. The ethanolic extract of Lathyrus sativus Linn. (500 mg/kg) exhibited significant (p<0.01) inhibition of writhing reflex 27.5% respectively while the standard drug diclofenac sodium inhibition was found to be 84.62% at a dose of 25 mg/kg body weight. All the results tend to justify the uses of the plant and require further investigation to identify the chemicals responsible for these effects.
