Soil pollution is a very important environmental issue that has been attracting considerable public attention over the last few decades. Agricultural sustainability and civilization of society enormously depend on land. However, contamination of soil due to heavy metals is a major threat to mankind. Cd is one of the most toxic metals in the environment and has noxious effects on vegetative growth. Pb is the second ranked of most widely distributed hazardous substances in the environment and can cause morphological, physiological, and biological dysfunctions in plants. The book covers phytoextraction, a method of phytoremediation that demonstrates the uptake and accumulation of heavy metals like Pb and Cd in the roots and aerial components like stem and leaves, as well as the effects on morphological parameters like root length and shoot length of Jatropha , Coleus & Cascabela spp. Different heavy metal concentrations were applied to the garden plants during the experiment. AAS method was used to measure the accumulation of heavy metals in the plants.
