Herbal drugs have been widely used worldwide since ancient times mainly due to the fewer side effects of the phytomedicines and the cost effectiveness. Phytomedicines need a scientific approach to deliver the active constituent in effective level and to maintain the plasma drug concentration for longer period of time to increase patient compliance. This can be achieved by designing a novel drug delivery system for herbal constituents. One such novel approach is phytosome technology. Phytosomes are novel form of herbal formulations which contains the bioactive phytoconstituents of herb extract complexed with phospholipid to produce lipid compatible molecular complexes. The phytosome technology meets the challenge by markedly enhancing the solubility, absorption and bioavailability of the phytomedicines for better activity. We hope this book contribute towards the upliftment of the knowledge in the area of herbal medicines. We are hoping that students and teachers of pharmacy get benefitted by this book. We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the publishers of this book.
