Medicinal plants are the basis of phytotherapy and among these plants we mention rosemary. In this context, we were interested in studying the protective role of rosemary essential oil against diabetes and oxidative stress. Our results showed that the treatment of animals with alloxane at a rate of (100 ml/kg of PC) causes the installation of a diabetes accompanied by a renal and especially hepatic alteration which implies consequently an oxidative stress. The subchronic treatment by the oily extract of rosemary (0,05ml/100g of PC) allows the protection of the renal and hepatic function and without doubt the oxidative stress because of its richness in flavonoids. Therefore the oily extract of rosemary can be proposed as a food additive to protect against certain pathologies.
