East Louis Illinios native and representative. Film North (MN) & Century College (MN) graduate. Born artist & creator. Inspired director and producer. Creator of the critically acclaimed feature film PICK A SIDE. As a playwright, he has been commissioned to write new work for the Minnesota Science Museum, the Minnesota Historical Society, Mixed Blood Theater (in conjunction with Bedlam Theater and Voices of Cedar-Riverside), VocalEssence, The Playwrights' Center, and The History Theatre. As a screenwriter, a sampling of his work includes "The Screenplay Project: Four Shorts" for Twin Cities Public Television (KTCA TV), which was awarded the 1990 Regional Emmy Award for Best Original Drama, the feature film scripts, "Fast Girls" for Russell Simmons' Def Pictures, "Spirit Dive" for HBO New York, "Black & Blue," a feature length dramatic series pilot for Davis Entertain-ment, and the Showtime Network, and "Block by Block," a web-based dramatic series for children. He has also written numerous "industrial " or educational films, including "Tin iyo Cirib" (Head to Foot), a DVD for Health Partners staff about more effective service to East African immigrant communities, and "Healing the Healers," for Hazelden Foundation, which was awarded the 2009 Cine Golden Eagle for Best Educational Film. He penned the script for the feature-length documentary. "Word of Honor: Redeeming Mandela's Promise," for Monde World Films, released in 2016. Current projects include feature film script, "Pick A Side," a deeply spiritual urban drama co-written with Endless Memories, LLC principal, Timothy Hale, "Killing Mookie," a documentary film script for Bully Creative, and the adaptation of "Deep River," an unpublished young adult novel co-written with playwright John Olive, into a limited series about President Lincoln's summer on the Mississippi the year he turned 19. He has served as State Mentor for The Givens Black Writers Collaborative Retreat. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at University of St. Thomas, teaching basic writing skills for non-profit executives, and as Screenwriting Mentor at Augsburg University's MFA Program in Creative Writing. He currently teaches screenwriting at FilmNorth, and MN Prison Writing Workshop. Grant is a graduate of Antioch College. He is president emeritus of Screenwriters' Workshop, former member of The Loft board of directors, a core alumnus member of The Playwrights' Center, and a member of the Writers' Guild of America, west.
