This collection of short stories was written to reflect Caribbean life in my home island country of Trinidad & Tobago. As the title, suggests, the stories contain witty repartee, which is the definition of the word picong in the Picong, Pelau & Peppersauce, local parlance; a mix of mores, pelau, which the local dish of a mix of peas, rice, meat and spices suggests; and the obligatory peppersauce, that flavours the whole meal, so to speak. These stories reflect life among the common people featuring well-known characters such as the saga boy, sweet man, lady of the night, and ministers who have fallen from grace. They belong to the underbelly of society, which exists across all walks of life. Each story makes use of the Trinidad vernacular with colourful folk sayings and wry local observances. Characters are drawn from the common man living everyday life as circumstances allow. Woven into each plot are the simple joys, harsh realities, misplaced love and lust, and the mysteries that often attend daily life among ordinary people. Here then is an offering of stories utilizing a recipe of Picong, Pelau & Peppersauce from my humble literary menu specially curated for your enjoyment.
