Traditional instruments along with rotary instruments involved in dental therapeutics, have disadvantages of heat generation while cutting bone, and thereby require a high amount of external copious irrigation. Such instruments exert considerable pressure in osseous dentistry. To overcome such limitations, a novel surgical technique known as Piezo surgery was introduced based on ultrasonic micro vibration for a precise and selective cut on bone, without injuring surrounding tissues. In this era of minimally invasive therapy, a piezoelectric device is an innovative tool developed as an alternative to the mechanical and electric instruments that are used in conventional oral surgical procedures.
