Autorenporträt
Susanna Clarke (Nottingham, 1959) es licenciada en Oxford. En 1992, al tiempo que publicaba algunos relatos cortos -The Ladies of Grace Adieu, Starlight 1, y Mr. Simonelli, or The Fairy Widower, éste último nominado al World Fantasy Award en 2001-, comenzó a escribir su gran novela, Jonathan Strange y el señor Norrell, tarea que le llevó más de diez años. Documentada con abundantes y divertidas notas al pie, en las que aparecen tanto los pormenores de los prodigios a los que se alude, como breves ensayos sobre el mundo de los duendes, referencias bibliográficas a libros inventados y antiguas profecías, estas notas certifican que la magia fue un día parte de la vida cotidiana y forman una novela dentro de la novela.
