On Planet Ice, everything is cold and white, even the people, who have never seen any other color. The ice-dudes and ice-dudettes of the planet are very sad; they don't play or listen to music or have friends. One day, she wanders away from home, exploring and trying to find somewhere less dull. Suddenly she stumbles on a colorful hidden cave full of people who are not only colorful but also happy and full of life. Where did they come from? And can Icelena learn to be like them? If she can get to know them and understand their colorful attitudes, perhaps she can learn more about herself, true friendship, and the true meaning of life. This children's story tells the tale of a girl living on an unhappy, colorless planet who finds a new way of thinking about the world that changes her life.

Valéria Bendana-Bijos was born in Brazil and moved to the United States when she graduated from architecture school. She and her husband have two daughters and have lived in a variety of countries around the world. Planet Ice was inspired by the experiences of one of her daughters when the family moved to Brazil.
