The book is a product of a field and laboratory research with details on how temperature, pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, alkalinity, chloride, nitrate-nitrogen, orthophosphate, chromium, iron and lead affect diversity and density of phytoplankton and zooplankton species in the River. The study revealed the presence of 34 phytoplankton species belonging to chlorophyceae, cyanophyceae and bacillariophyceae, and 18 zooplankton species belonging to protozoa, copepoda, cladocera, rotifera and insecta. A number of recommendations were proffered in this book with the view to address the pollution menace in the River.

Dr. Sani Ibrahim is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Biology, Bayero University, Kano and the Deputy Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies. He obtained his PhD Biology (Hydrobiology) from the same University. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The author has published many articles in reputable journals.
