Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) is one of the most important bulbous ornamentals for cut flowers and known as Sword lily or Corn flag belongs to family Iridaceae and is one of the leading cut flower of India as well as World. The name gladiolus was coined by Pliny the Elder (AD 23-79) deriving from the Latin word gladius or gladiator because of its sword like leaves. The flower is popular for its majestic spike, which contains attractive, elegant, dazzling and delicate florets. These florets open in sequence over longer duration and hence have a good quality of cut spikes. The colour range in gladiolus is fantastic and almost any colour near black to white, white, pink, yellow, violet, mauve and combination of these colours are available. The importance of PGRs, both endogenous ones and synthetic compounds, for crop improvement, has been realized long ago in many countries. Now a day the plant growth regulators are used to increase flower production in the world. Growth regulators are used to promote the growth and flower quality as well as corm production in gladiolus.
