Nematodes caused on average 50% plantain yield reduction in south eastern Nigeria and 20% absolute loss. This book presents a series of first reports on plantain from Nigeria, reviewed its uses in traditional herbal medicine, briefly introduced the double bunched plantain and identified some challenges to research for development in Nigeria. It is a valuable reference material for researchers, extension workers, teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, growers of plantain and banana, policy makers and non professionals.

Omolara Olaniyi earned PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium; Phytopathologist/Nematologist, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria (1991-2009); Graduate Research Fellow, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (1996-1999, 2003). At present a private researcher & supervises PhD research.
