Biofuels are answer to problems related to energy security, greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable development. Liquid biofuels such as lignocellulosic-based ethanol and biodiesel are obtained from variety of biofuel plants which provide renewable clean energy for future generations. Depending on climate and soil conditions, different nations are looking for suitable biofuel plants. Apart from traditional biofuel crops there are many tree species which bear seeds rich in oil and can be used as source of biofuel. In this book total twenty four plants are discussed as suitable and probable biofuel plants. This study focus on multipurpose, short duration, highly acceptable annual crops which can be useful as biofuel plant and at the same time can be used as food and/or fodder or can be cultured as rotational crops with food crops. It also includes other plant species which are not well-known as biofuel plant but have potential and can be better alternatives to marginal lands that would not adversely affect food production and will lead to rural development. This book is useful for researchers, farmers, academicians, students, govt. officials and policy makers etc.
