Lisa María Burgess grew up in the Sierra Madre of north-western Mexico. She originally wrote this story with her father, Don Burgess, when she was a little girl. Over the years, they both retold the story over and over again. Lisa María has also written the Tanzania Juma Stories. Lisa María Burgess creció en la Sierra Madre del Noroeste de México.
