Autorenporträt
Elly Kree- (McKay) George (1924-2003) was of Scottish-Cherokee descent and grew up in Ohio. From an early age she loved all facets of nature. Later as a Girl Scout leader and an Audubon Jr. Club leader, she was able to instill a respect of the natural world in children. After observing her grandchildren taking nature walks, Elly-Kree wrote Please Don't Step on Me to remind them and others to be kind to all creatures. Elly-Kree was married to a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, artist Edwin George, and lived on the Cherokee reservation in North Carolina.
