This book explores the utilization of intellectual property rights as collateral for bank loans in Ethiopia. It provides a critical analysis of the legal and institutional frameworks governing the pledging of intellectual property for bank financing in the country. Additionally, the book highlights the challenges associated with using intellectual property as collateral for loans in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has recently taken steps to reform its laws on secured transactions involving movable property security rights, possibly aligning them with the legal texts of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). This reform is expected to rejuvenate the use of intellectual property as a pledge for bank loans.
