Poems for Futility By: Jonathan Miner Captivating the semblance of insanity. From apologetic tunes to apathy to the joy of existing within one's own mind, Poems for Futility captures the grief, love, and rage within any life. Expressed through varying poetic styles, the poems within seek to lure any poet or great thinker to at least one poem for contemplation and connection. Inspired by the Portuguese poet Fernando Pesso and the infamous American poet Edgar Allan Poe, Poems for Futility gazes at the despair of existentialism and existential horror with an eloquent gaze of philosophy. If philosophical soliloquies do not entice you to read, then consider the surreal tales of dread and despair. About the Author Born in Lancaster, California, Jonathan Miner lived with a working mother until the age of nine when he met his future stepfather. In those nine years of limbo, he experienced abuse from his stepfather and being exploited by a close family member for over six years. Though being wild and having an insatiable creative spirit, there were bouts of rage that plagued his youth. Fights at school were common. In fear of reprisal and not understanding fully what was happening, he would not discuss anything with his mother. In high school, Miner participated in football, rugby, and wrestling. Feeling depleted from schooling and overwhelmed with solitude, he sought ways to achieve fulfillment, and after falling into depression, Miner took to writing as an outlet for his despair and philosophical intrigue. Now living in Long Beach, California, he is attending California State University of Long Beach.
