This volume analyses the positive and negative outcomes of the way of different governing systems in handling these conflicts. The study highlights the importance of not only understanding the major internal conflicts but also anticipating and identifying the problems and difficulties that arise from the consequences and throws up useful policy pointers.

Lt Gen (Retd) V R Raghavan is President, Centre for Security Analysis, Chennai, India. He was a member of India's National Security Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Task Force set up by the Government of India to Review Defense Preparedness. The General was an elected member of the Council of United Services Institution of India and was Council Member, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London.
