This dissertation, which was successfully defended in 2005, compared Canadian community colleges with post-secondary vocational schools in Poland. The comparison concentrated on programs in nursing, tourism and information technology. Two research approaches were used in this study: qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Moreover, the theoretical framework was supplied by the general notion of the school as an organization and social institution.

Norman L. Butler, Ph.D is both a Canadian and Polish citizen. Furthermore, he teaches English as a foreign language at AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Poland. Norman has also taught at the Univesity of Central Lancashire and the University of Bradford in the UK.
