Some African leaders, in order to stay in power, use and abuse practices that undermine democracy, the rule of law, and good governance. Insufficient democratization of political systems and the lack of democratic management of states are sources of political conflict, as they lead to political systems with completely undermined institutions and illegitimate regimes. In recent years, political conflicts have multiplied across the African continent. Although the causes are diverse, the conflicts have only one objective: the control of power. Moreover, history already shows that even absolute monarchs have had to be overthrown in the West, by violent means and revolutions, in order for peoples to regain their dignity. But, so that conflicts do not become the rule and the institutional process the exception, it seems necessary to envisage the management of states by institutions and regimes based on democratic legitimacy; and which play the game of democracy by encouraging the alternation of power between parties or regimes.
