In the context of present day market trends in electronic and microelectronic devices that call for miniaturization and suitable form factors for efficient use of device space, the properties of solid polymer electrolytes such as their high compliance, good adherence to electrodes and the possibility of fabricating the polymers into thin films are attractive. Polymer thin films are already being used in a number of exploratory technologies such as thin film triodes, thin film memory circuits, switching devices, fixed and variable capacitors etc. Piezoelectric polymers are used in car-phones, underwater transducers whereas pyroelectric polymers are used in I.R. detectors and burglar alarm systems etc.
