'Pondicherry' is a collection of photographs of the former French colonial city in Tamil Nadu, South India now known as 'Puducherry'. Today the city has become a popular destination for Indians and international visitors mainly because of its beaches, French colonial avenues, laid back feel and it's Temple Elephant 'Lakshmi'. The city is also home to one of India's wealthiest ashrams, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and the experimental township known as Auroville with its iconic giant golden building. The Mobile Pictures Series and the selection of images in this book pays homage to analogue instant photography while capturing glimpses of the everyday in India. This work, in part, documents Ronan Haughton's relationship with the places he traveled to together with his partner (who is from India). The narratives this series of books are not always in the order in which an account or sequence of events occurred and there are also images that are dreamlike, abstract or magical, which skew any attempt at linear storytelling.
