In this bilingual German-English story, the fates of three German soldiers intertwine with those of a British officer and his wife in the waning months of World War II. Physically and emotionally maimed, Lord Sandwell returns home from the front to find his wife Ernestine completely altered by her service on the Home Front. To make matters worse, the War Office appoints him to be the commandant of a POW camp. When a lynched body dangles in front of his office window, Sandwell realises that he must be more than a prison keeper. He and Ernestine set out on a mission to save the infantrymen from the grip of the German officers. Just as the Sandwells begin to think that they and the prisoners might win the peace, disaster strikes again. Who is behind the mysterious attacks in Camp 211?
